Early Morning Hours
Chaplain Liz Danielsen
April 2026
I love the early morning hours before the hectic pace of the day begins. I sit in my gazebo and listen to the birds sing, watching the different kinds of birds gather at our feeder. It almost feels as though they know I am there and are saying, “Good for you—you took time to enjoy the blessings of this quiet morning.”
Everything feels beautiful in those moments, free from distractions. My flowers are bursting with color, and I sense God’s presence as I take in His creation and feel the cool morning breeze. The sun begins to shine through the trees as if to whisper, “Wake up—it’s a new day. Enjoy it.”
I treasure these early hours because they are often when God speaks most clearly to me through His Word. Today, He led me to Proverbs 3:3 in the New International Version: “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.”
At times, it can be difficult to show love and remain faithful to what God has asked of us. It can be especially challenging to stay faithful in our relationships when we are facing chronic illness, personal loss, or other hardships. Yet I am reminded that it is not impossible. Through the strength of the Holy Spirit, God has made a way for us. He is always there to help us walk in love and faithfulness.
So today, I choose love. I choose faithfulness. And I thank God for these quiet early morning hours with Him. When He speaks, my heart is refreshed.
How about you?
