The Power of Your Hands

Chaplain Liz Danielsen
March 2026

Today I found myself thinking about my hands, and I sensed God reminding me of the power He has placed in them. Before you read on, would you pause for just a moment and look at your own hands?

Our hands were created by God. No one else has hands like yours. They are uniquely designed and filled with purpose. Our hands are powerful — powerful enough to impact a person, a family, a city, even the world. They are instruments of compassion, service, creativity, and blessing.

Even now, hands are helping those affected by disasters around the world. Hands rescue injured animals. Hands serve in nursing homes and hospitals. Caregivers offer their hands daily to support loved ones and friends. Hands steady a child learning to ride a bike. Hands play, build, and create memories with children. Hands extend in greeting to say, “I’m so glad you’re here.” Hands sign conversations for those who cannot hear. Hands clean homes, churches, and community centers.

Seeds planted by hands bring forth beautiful flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Hands held during grief offer peace and comfort. Hands bless children, adults, and even animals. Hands joined in prayer create spiritual connection. Holding hands in moments of fear brings calm. The laying on of hands becomes a channel for God’s healing. Uplifted hands offer praise and worship to Him.

Have you taken time today to thank God for your hands — and for the many ways He has used them to serve, comfort, build, heal, and bless?

If not, perhaps now is the perfect moment.
