Seeking God

At the Danielsen Center for Hope after Loss, we encourage each person to seek the Lord with all their heart, all their soul, and all their mind (Matthew 22:37).
You may be reading this and asking honest, heartfelt questions: How can I seek God when I am facing illness? When I’ve lost my baby, my child, my parent, my spouse, or a dear friend? How can I seek God while grieving the loss of a marriage, a job, financial security, or when these losses confront me every day? How can I seek God when I am caring for others and feel completely exhausted myself? And how can I seek God when it feels like He cannot be found?
I am so glad you asked.
Seeking God is not something we are meant to do on our own—it is only possible with the help of the Holy Spirit. Your part is simply making the decision to seek Him; God does the rest. First, you must have a relationship with Jesus Christ so that the Holy Spirit can work in you. We have to recognize that we are sinners (doing things that separate us from God) and that we need a way to make us right with God. Out of His great love, God made a way by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. All you have to do is receive that gift. The journey of knowing and seeking God begins when you admit your need for Him, ask for forgiveness, and choose to place Jesus—not yourself—at the center of your life. That is the good news.
From there, spiritual growth unfolds through intentional practices: prayer, reading Scripture for guidance, fasting, setting aside quiet time to be alone with God, attending church, and surrounding yourself with people who will encourage your faith. When God speaks to you through His Word, respond with obedience. Take steps toward the changes He invites you to make—steps that lead to healing, wholeness, and hope. And remember, you are never alone.
As you seek Him, He will be found. Scripture reminds us:
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." Matthew 7:7
