A Valentine’s Day Greeting from God

Chaplain Liz Danielsen
February 2026

This time of year, many people are preparing for Valentine’s Day. It’s an opportunity to send a card or small gift to someone we love or are thinking about. Florists, candy shops, and card stores are busy as people search for just the right way to show they care.

But today, I’m especially thinking of those who may not receive flowers, candy, or a card. Does that mean you are not loved? Not at all. I want to gently remind you that God loves you — not just on Valentine’s Day, but every single day of the year.

You may be living with chronic illness, fighting pain each day. You may have recently lost a loved one or experienced another kind of loss that has left you feeling devastated. Perhaps you are caring for someone else and feeling weary from the emotional and physical demands of caregiving. Whatever you are facing, God sees you and understands exactly what you are going through.

Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows everything about us — when we sit, when we stand, and when we lie down. He knows our thoughts before we even speak them. He is familiar with all our ways. The Lord is thinking of you constantly. He is thinking of you right now.

If He were to send you a Valentine today, it would say this: I love you so much that I sent My Son, Jesus, to die for you. Because of Him, your sins can be forgiven, and you are given the promise of eternal life. That is love beyond measure.

Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that He quiets us with His love. What a beautiful gift — a love that brings peace to our hearts. And this gift is for you.

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at
the Danielsen Center for Hope after Loss.
